Frequently Asked Questions

I am interested in training to become a teacher, but do I have to commit to the whole Teacher Training Course right away?

Definitely not. You can do any of the first three modules for personal or professional benefit alone. Although many people will be doing the course with the intention of graduating as teachers, there will also be a number who don't want to become teachers but who feel they can benefit from the intensive personal development work the programme offers.

The Training programme is focused on training people to succeed and become their best in whatever they attempt, rather than just being restricted to making them into teachers. Because of the inherent flexibility in the course design, the decision to become a teacher does not become critical until after the first three modules.

How much study will I have to do?

In addition to the reading for the monthly classroom commitments, trainees take written or practical exams every six months. Some courses also include written assignments. However most students find the class material so fascinating and absorbing, that the question of minimum study time rarely arises.

How can I find out if this is the right course for me?

Probably the best way to decide if the Interactive Teaching Method is right for you is to attend one of the Summer Workshops which are held each year. This will give the prospective student the opportunity to meet and interact with the people who would have a direct impact on their training.
For those who can’t attend one of these courses, you could begin a series of lessons with an ITM teacher or come to one of the public introductory classes. We strongly recommend that anyone who has any interest in this kind of personal growth opportunity take "Basic Principles," the first course in the programme. This introduction to Alexander’s ideas and the manner in which the ITM is taught is the best way to make the decision as to whether the programme is right for you.
